Blogmas Day 7 2015:Creative Writing On Wallflowers

Welcome Back To A Day In The Life Of The Anonymous Me!

Today I wanted to do something a little bit different. I am going to share with you a piece of writing that I wrote at a creative writing workshop that I attend every week. I really suggest that if you want to be an author or you just love writing that that you try and find one near you. It’s really fun and you meet lots of people who all share the same passion – WRITING!!!!! (Okay too many exclamation marks)

The piece I am sharing with you is about wallflowers and people who don’t fit into society perfectly like a jigsaw. If you want a more in-depth conversation about what I was inspired by to write this, or you want to talk about your views on wallflowers, then please leave a comment below and I will get back to you all.

Here you are…

As he meandered along the carpet of crispy autumn leaves tipped with fire his mind flooded with thoughts. He was drowning in every emotion you could imagine: happiness, sadness, joyfulness, anger…and one single thought kept floating around his head.

‘I’m a bird. I’m always there, but never seen; always heard, but never listened to; I’ve always had the possibility to go anywhere I’ve wanted in life, yet I’ve always stayed in the same place. I’m a bird.’

And on and on he strolled paying no attention to time, for no-one would notice he was gone. Crunch and crisp went the leaves. These were the only footprints he would ever mark on this Earth. Yet he had the knowledge to imprint his mark everywhere.

He didn’t want to be vocarious, but he knew he was. Others work was enough for him at times, but most of the time he wanted to share his discoveries.

So for all his life he remained a bird, exploring the woods where he thought he belonged.

I hope you liked it and for anyone confused about him saying he is a bird, he is metaphorically comparing himself to a bird. I’d love to know if you would like to read more of these types of posts and…

…Until next time, goodbye

  1. Such a lovely piece of writing. I really understood what you were trying to say. I think that wallflowers are so much more common now with the rise of social media and more focus on popularity groups and class than there were 15 years ago. I would love to see more of these posts on your blog. This was a joy to read – it really made me think. Well to be truthful your whole blog makes me think. 1. Thank you for such a lovely comment. It really has made my day! I too feel that social media has a massive effect on the number of wallflowers that are around to day. I also think the increase in the number of mental health illnesses such as depression and insomnia has a large part to play. You find quite often people with mental illnesses don’t know how to join in a conversation and be sociable…and that’s okay. We just need to help those people. I’m so pleased you and your friend find my blog useful and enjoy reading my posts. Happy Blogging! xx
